At Martock Church School, we believe that every child can be an artist. Our Art and Design curriculum is ambitious, inclusive and full of opportunities for children to be curious, creative and confident.

We want our children to enjoy exploring ideas, experimenting with materials and developing their own unique creativity. Through drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, craft and design, children build their artistic knowledge and skills and learn about a wide and diverse range of artists, designers and craftspeople.

We have high expectations for every child and are committed to ensuring that Art and Design is accessible to all. Children are encouraged to experiment, take creative risks and understand that there is not always one ‘right’ way to create art. We celebrate individuality and want every child to feel proud of their ideas and achievements.

As children move through our school, they build a rich artistic vocabulary, develop their practical skills and revisit important knowledge so that what they learn is remembered and built upon. They learn to observe carefully, make thoughtful choices, talk about art, explain their ideas and reflect on how their work develops.

Above all, we want Art and Design to inspire our children. Our aim is for them to leave Martock Church School believing “I can be creative”, with the confidence, knowledge and enthusiasm to continue exploring the world through art.
